British Standard – BS 5499:2000 – Safety Signs, including fire safety signs code of practice for escape route signing.

British Standard provides guidance for the correct type of signage, location, mounting, lighting and maintenance.

Usually following a formal risk assessment these items are highlighted within a risk assessment report and confirm the need for escape route signage.
